Thanks to the Mods for putting a site like this for all to use! Now, I've read Weatherspotters thread. He's in Midland... home of 93.3 - WKQZ! I, on the other hand, am stuck (no pun intended) in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Basics: 2007 Toyota Matrix - Stock - Nothing added - 63,342 miles - 27-29 (avg) MPG - NEVER hit over 32 mpg! (concern?)
Current Tire Size: 205/55/16 "H"
Question is, should I stay with the same size tire. I am NOT in a position to buy new rims... so, it will have to stay 16" - but, 215/55/16 OR 225/50/16 are other options that I am told I have. Speedometer is currently about 3.5 mph faster than actually traveling. EX. 55 mph shows 58-59 mph. Leaning toward Goodride SW602's OR SW601's.... check out flea-bay or google them.
Thanks in advance for your replies!

snow tires are better the thinner they are
the stock 16's have a stock tire of 205 - you're best bet is to stick with 205 or go smaller
summer tires you would want wider - snow is the exact opposite - the less tire, the less snow it has to penetrate

you can put 165 tires on those rims if you wanted - doesnt mean its a good idea
that's what the drifters do

you did not mention, is your trix a 2 wheel drive or awd? I was thinking about your low fuel mileage and I have gotten 32.1 MPG average over my 62.5K miles. On longer trips I get 34-38 mpg. I have gotten 40 on a nice drive on US2 from Esky to the bridge.

I was looking for 15"x6" steel rims for a while, but did not find any for a decent price. Ended up with a set of stock steel 16"x6.5" rims. For winter tires, Blizzak WS60's came in a 195/60R16 size .... less than 0.25" diameter difference from the factory 205/55R16 diameter. For winter, narrower is better ... you just want to be close to the over all stock tire diameter. Our first snow storm is set to hit early tomorrow evening!

I've got some Dunlop Graspic DS2 215/55R17 and they work great...
No problem in the last snow storm!

Thinner the better for snow tire - 195/65/15 would be a better alternative compared to 205/55/16.
225/50/16 would be a great size for summer set up.

Hi Guys,
newbie is here (both for the site and Matrix).
Just got my 2006 XR Matrix a week ago and it came with 17'' all seasons.
Definately feeling the need to have winter tires on it.
Found used 4 tires with rims, but not sure about the size - it's 185/60/15.
Will it be good for me?
