It's out and about people! Was searching for parts for my XRS and stumbled upon this.

It's up on TRD USA's web page under quick shifters, parts number PTR48-52080.

The purpose of a quick shifter is to be able to get to the next gear without losing RPMs between shifting. It helps for your acceleration.

anyone can confirm that this one fits matrix base (1.8L) model?

i emailed TRD asking about it, and they said yes, but i just want to double check since web site says 2.4L only.

Actually it only shortens the distance the shifter needs to travel to select another gear, your RPM's will still fall at the same rate with or without it, but because it takes less time to move the shifter with it installed, the rpm's may not have time to drop to far. But it's completely up to the driver on how fast they want to complete the shift, Hell I know some people that don't even use the clutch to up shift, they let the synchronizes do all the work. But they blow out their gearboxes pretty quick.

I had my dealer order one when I purchased my 09 S (the only manual left on the lot, was hoping for the XRS) I only paid for the parts and not for install, it will be here on the 21st, (so they say) I'll let yo guys know how it feels, hell I'll even do a write up, I got a $1,000 dollar digital SLR and need an excuse to use it more often.

Let's hope it's better engineered than the 03-08' ones, we had to cut a piece of plastic from the shifter assembly to install the TRD Quick Shifter. I would never drive a car with out some type of short shifter, it makes shifting faster and more fun.

+1 here's hoping smile.gif I'll let you know what all is involved once the parts get in. should be here tomorrow.

Pure awesomeness. Well not that great, but better than stock. I like the notchy feel of quick shifters and this one reduces the throw about 35% without too much increase with the amount of effort to shift. The quickshifter was the 1st thing I put on the car when I got it over the summer and it took me under an hour to install. No cutting necessary, pricing and instructions that can be found here: Click Me

It's good to know that there is no cutting necessary. One questuion though.. and I'm sure the answer is yes.. but does the stock shift knob fit on the TRD quickshifter? I'd really like to keep the stock knob.

Nevermind, I didn't realize that the TRD quickshift is installed at the transmission. I thought it was a short shifter assembly.

kinda reviving an older topic here but I bought one of these for an 09 vibe and didn't like it. I even wrote a little bit on how-to on the install and review over at my fav site genvibe.com. Sure pancit said pure awesomeness but I on the other hand wasn't crazy about it. So I guess that each drivers preference is different on how they like their shifter to feel.

pancit175
To each their own. What did you not like about it?
matacks
Well I just didn't like how it made the shifter a little harder to move. Also thought it felt crunchy, which is how its supposed to feel I guess. I sorta missed how effortlessly the shifter could be thrown from gear to gear in stock form. I was also slightly concerned about my transmission being unhappy.

I may go ahead and reinstall though to give it another try.

The extra effort required to throw the shifter is always going to be a side effect of any type of short shifter since you are altering the leverage point. But most people can sacrifice the extra effort for a faster shift and shorter throw.
I can understand on how you could be unhappy with it. I guess I've grown accustomed to a more aggressive short throw from my last car. I see it as more as a benefit and comfort to maneuver with it installed. As in, I'd rather give a little more effort than have to reach for each shift.
If you are unhappy with it, I'm sure there will be a few people here that might want to take if off your hands if you put it up for sale.

TWM performance makes the best short shifters. One of the guys in the local Toyota club has one on his Corolla XRS and it feels unlike any other short shifter. Nott grindy, not too stiff, and really short throws. It feels amazing. I've gone in person to TWM, since they're in Quebec close to where my inlaws live adn told them they should make one for the '09 Matrix. I even volunteered my car to leave it with them for a weekend, but right now they say they are so busy with other projects that it's not possible sad.gif

The market for '09 Matrixes isn't big enough yet, according to them. Understandably they're working on ones for more popular tuner cars like the Genesis, etc...Funny enough though they have one for the '09+ Corolla and even though the TRD shifter can be alternated between the Corolla and Matrix, the TWM one cannot. They do make one for the older generation Matrix though.

I did buy a TWM Abrams M1 shift knob and it is amazing in terms of the build quality and feel. The weighted knob alone made a nice difference for shifting. I'll post pics soon.

Hi guys, has anybody been able to get this shifter (PTR46-52080) to work with a 2009, 2010 Matrix with the 1.8 engine? TRD said it would be fit and I bought the shifter but I could not get it installed. I could not find where it is supposed to go. My mechanical abilities are...well I have almost none. Your help is really appreciated. Thanks a lot.

They must have lied to you because they were too lazy to really check. The instructions they use to install it says: "Matrix: 2009 and later with 2.4L engine and manual trans."
And TRDsparks.com doesn't list it for the base model.
fredy_sanchez11
Thank you pancit175. Well if anybody wants it, it is up for sale. $70 plus shipping. Nothing is missing, it is exactly as I got it from Sparks Toyota.
