I just got the shim fix performed, and I must say the car drives a whole lot better. Much more responsive, smoother, better feedback, and the car seems to be performing the way it was originally designed for. One big difference I've noticed is that alot of the time from a stop when I would go to accelerate there would be an inital point were it acted like I was giving more throttle and the car would take off harder. I'm able to regulate the pedal much better and so haven't had this happen, even with wearing work boots. Everyone should go out and get this done asap.
I had a good discussion about this with my buddy, and we've concluded that from what we've seen something was suppose to be there from the getgo. For what the shim does, and from what I've experienced the computer definitely was not getting the right voltage readings from the pedal. I can't wait for this to all blow over, it was crazy at the dealership. Just blown way out of proportion. |

You have been very informative and supportive during this whole fiasco. Good to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Scheduled my car last friday and my appointment for the fix is next week. So i hope to have the same positive feedback. |

It's definitely worth it, at least for the piece of mind. I'm also hearing that if you're not fully satisfied with the shim and make a big enough fuss, starting next month they're going to be installing redesigned pedals on a case by case basis. I'm still really interested in what changes they did to the new pedals. Hopefully someone will get their hands on one soon. |

I've been driving it alittle more and the improve response is still felt. I thought it was responsive before but it's even more so. Almost instant response, and the tranny is more eager to downshift. I jabbed the throttle about half way while getting on the on ramp. The car pulled in gear for a sec, downshifted and really pulled....very linearly. Not the start accelerating than pause for a second to decide to downshift and than go. Another thing I've noticed is that on the 5-speed auto when I let off the gas around town the car would engine brake almost like a manual, now it does this alot less and coasts more.
Downside, my amp is not working. I hope the Toyota techs didn't mess it up. I'll have to check it in the a.m. |

Still no letter, but thankfully, the pedal seems fine. |

I took mine in for the recall and I got the car back a couple of hours ago. I’ve driven it in the city and on the highway to see what it was like. The spring tension on the pedal has increased for sure. The pedal feel is much more linear and smooth too. Perhaps this will do something, although I still have my concerns as I watched the video of how they repair the pedal and part of me said WTF?
As an aside, I found a Toyota grocery bag inside my car and I got a free lunch from the dealership I went to. I guess that’s Toyota’s way of saying sorry. They could have of course just said that a whole lot faster with a lot more meaning than they did. It might mean more to Toyota owners IMHO. But perhaps I'm being harsh. |

Have any of us who have 2009/2010 Matrix's received the recall letter? I know I have not. I didn't get the recall letter, I got a email from the Toyota dealing that I just need to take it in anytime to get my Matrix fixed.I guess I am going to have to push this with my dealer -- no email or letter and they told me to wait for the letter. Has anyone gotten an actual recall letter? |

no letter, but i did get an email. But yea, this whole thing is getting real messy. I was reading this blog surfing thru the web during my break @work and its killing me that i didn't bookmark it because i can't find it anymore. But it was talking about how now that GM is owned by the government and this was some kind of strategy to build the american car. i don't know who or what to believe anymore. i am just gonna get the "fix" and go from there. Another thing that really sucks is my insurance rates went up. Called my agent to question the raise in my rate, he told me because i own a 2009 toyota matrix, 2005 honda civic and 2000 honda Crv which have all had some kind of recall going from improper air bag deployment to unintended gas pedal acceleration.

Your insurance won't go up because of the recall; your agent is a raving moron. Your insurance went up because everybody's insurance is going up.
And yes, our governments have a vested interest in helping the big 3 do better thanks to our bailout of their idiotic business practices. And this has all been blown grossly out of proportion. Also, mankind f****** sucks. |

Is the 05 Matrix AWD part of the recall? I'm concerned about my wifes car. Here's a cut and paste posting of mine in another topic. My wife's Matrix is a 2005 AWD XR and the first thing I notice when we got the car was the gas pedal was kind of stiff compared to all the other cars I've driven. It didn't really bothered me but it is annoying when on an incline and I want to do some micro movement which I can't cause of the stiffness in the pedal movement. Then occasionally when stop and foot on the brakes, I will feel the car surges, kinda of like it wants to accelerate. And when it does this you can feel the car jerk and move a bit and I noticed that the RPM does jump up as well. This only happens when stop and foot on the brakes though and not when the car is moving. I know 05 Matrixes are not part of the recall but do you guys think that this problem/issue we have with the car related to this current Toyota recall. Or maybe someone with a 1st gen Matrix share their experience. My wife's Trix is out of warranty. When you hit the 'power' brake you are using vacuum assist. If your 'power brake booster' has a vacuum leak, you might be picking up on the idle change that air causes. If your brake pedal hisses at you when pressed, have the booster checked. Tucsondivots.
It's going to take a while before the call notices come to us customers. Afterall what is it 8.3 million customers? Plus they only started sending the recall notices out Feb. 6th. When we were in Tucson last winter looking at the Matrix, we contacted the dealership at Sierra Vista, AZ. They are maybe around 60 miles from Tucson. Maybe they will do it without the recall notice. Also there are lots of dealerships up in the Phoenix area, could always try them. That's where we ended up buying our Matrix. We haven't got the recall notice yet and I haven't called the dealership in Tempe where we got the car to see if they will do the recall without the notice. Neither the wife or I are that concerned about it. The car accelerator at this time works just fine. |

It is easy to caught up in a frenzy over this but I have not had any issues with my accelerator pedal either. I think I will just be patient and wait. Maybe they will be recalling our Trix's for power steering next |

well, i got the recall work done today on the 09 S AWD. i honestly can't really tell the difference after, other than the car seems to run more smoother, but that could all be in my head. Never really had problems with the accelerator anyway to begin with. Took about an hour to get it done. . . while i was waiting took a 2009 scion XB with 5spd manual for a test drive. It only had 8,000 miles on it and they were selling it for $13,875. Now i'm really contemplating trading in my 2007 civic si for it, for the sake of upgrading to something with little more cargo space plus the $1000 cash back salesman was telling me they would throw in there for customer loyalty.. . . . HMmmm decisions, decisions
