Few days ago, due to a rear diff leak, I change the seal (side gear shaft).

Then I realize that my rear diff breather (90930-03170) was totally clogged.

So, I just what to share with you that can be one of the culprit causing seal leak when pressure is built in the diff and there is no way to escape.

It is a «nice to know » since I’m not sure that the Toyota or other mechanic check this breather will they change the rear diff seal. Avoiding to «service» this little part can promote leak in a near future after changing the seal.

Common cause especially on the trucks with the "jiggler" on the breather vent, one of my first checks on a rear diff seal leak, sometimes just undoing to blockage will stop the leak

Toyota dealer just let me know I have a Rear Differential Leak, due to the Rear Diff breather being clogged. They said it is fairly common, yet apparently they didn't check it since they check my car every 5,000 miles.
