Hey guys,

I'm having a bit of trouble removing the stock steering wheel. I was hoping someone could help me out. I loosened the two torx screws on the side of the steering wheel but i can't seem to get them completely out. Are they not supposed to come out so I can remove the airbag? I've tried pulling on the airbag itself as well and it won't really budge.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

The screws should come completely out. You may have to lightly pull on it while unscrewing it. Make sure you're getting all the screws. (I don't remember how many.)

Alright so i was able to remove the airbag and the actual bolt that holds the steering wheel but can't get the actual steering wheel off. In the manual it says to remove it with a "sst" so im guessing i need a special tool to pull it off?

No, you don't need any special tools. Put the bolt back on just a few threads so that if it flies off you don't get it in the nose.

Then, smack it from the back towards yourself while sitting in the seat. Left side, right side, left side, right side.. it'll take some time, but it will come off.

Speaking of which, you still have my 30mm 12 point bit.

Other than a transmission rebuild, I've done or been involved in pretty much everything you can do to a Matrix, and I've used exactly 0 SSTs.

I'll give that a shot. I was told by a friend that I can also use a puller. I'm going to try what you mentioned first though rather than going out and buying a tool. I'll report back lol.

Thanks

Shadow, you can also go to Partsource and they'll lend you the tool. You just have to put a deposit down on it until you bring it back.

That's what I did with my last car :)

??? You just need a socket wrench, I forget the actual size. But that's it. Lock the steering wheel, remember the orientation of the wheel placement and righty tighty lefty loosey.

No, the issue is that once you get that bolt off, the steering wheel often doesn't want to come off anyway. It's on that spindle pretty good.
