I just replaced the entire JBL audio in my 05 Matrix XRS - reason being I wanted a head unit with USB, so I had to bypass the JBL amp and, to work with the Sony head unit I bought, I needed 4-ohm speakers, so I took out the factory 2-ohm speakers - I replaced the door speakers with 6 3/4 in fronts and custom-fitted 6x8's into the rear doors and I get plenty of good sound for what I need. So I have no need for the JBL system - includes all six speakers, head unit (6-CD changer), and subwoofer. I obviously had to use the factory wire harness under the passenger seat so no wire harnesses to the amp are included. System was in perfect condition before I removed it. I attached a pdf doc with pics, I have more pics upon request.
Asking $100.00

Thanks for reading.

One clarification - I have the factory wire harness connector for the amp-to-speaker harness and I assume I can retrieve the factory data harness that goes between the head unit and amp (still in car as of now).

Better off just going aftermarket for the door speakers and amp.

don't see the hatch panel for the sub... those who want to upgrade to this system and use the included sub will need the right side interior plastic from the hatch section.

Im not looking for spending $1000 for door speakers. Are these better than the speakers in my xr awd without the jbl audio. That's my question, and for $100 bucks you can't go wrong. Seeing that I'm a little late now its too late. Thanks.

I guess they could be a little better than the stock paper cone POS that come with the non JBL system. I bought infinity components for $90 off amazon, and have rockford fosgate primes in the back (think they were $30/pair). Much better than JBL setup

But for $100 to upgrade 4 speakers and 2 tweeters that are jbl, will improve what I have now.

If they are still for sale, Are they just plug and play with the stock ones I have?

ehh...might be an upgrade, but not much. From the pics, they're still paper cones. Still think you'd be better off getting a good set of components for the front and leave the stocks in the back till you can afford to upgrade the rears.

if you do get it, you'll have to figure out the rear panel where the sub mounts, and get your hands on a set of sail panels that are meant for the tweeters.

Hi all - sorry I did not elaborate a bit more on my sale of this system. Yes, you would need my RR interior trim panel to house the sub - I forgot about this. So I'd have to ask a bit more money so I can buy a non-JBL RR side panel to replace mine. Also, and more importantly, the head unit and amp from this system will NOT function with aftermarket parts. This is the reason I had to replace the whole system. The reason is that there are proprietary DATA communication wires going between the head unit and amp - I was unable to find an interface for the Matrix (some say this is a combo Toyota/GM design, thus the problem with finding an interface that would allow an aftermarket head unit to function with the amp, seeing as you CAN find an interface it seems for Camry and other JBL Toyota systems - check it out on Crutchfield).

So...for this to work in another car, I need to figure out if I can get the factory Toyota DATA line wire harness fished out of my car and sell that as well. Again, these are data wires that are mandatory between the amp and sub. This harness also contains two 12-volt power wires that power the amp. I'm really not sure I can fish this harness out and I'm not sure where the 2 power wires pick up from and if the non-JBL Matrix would have capability of accommodating this harness. If anyone knows where to find this out, please chime in.

Also - the reason I did not use the factory speakers with my aftermarket Sony head unit - the factory speakers are 2-ohm speakers - (except the tweeters) and most aftermarket head units are designed for 4-ohm or 8-ohm speakers. I had no interest in putting another amp in my car, and I wanted just to use the head unit's built-in amp, so I elected to just buy four new 4-ohm speakers and put them in the doors - I cut the rear doors to accommodate 6x8 speakers instead of the puny 4.5's that were there before.

So let me know if anyone still has any interest in this setup. I may be better off trying to sell this to a used car audio outfit that specializes in used OEM stuff for the collision repair market or something, if this exists.

are there 3 sound packages for the matrix? (Mine only had the door speakers and thats it)
1)Crap
2)Crap+Tweeters
3)Crap+Tweeter+JBL Sub/amp

You have option 2 and you just want some better sounding door speakers and tweeters?

Here's my last attempt......GO AFTERMARKET!

...this, honestly if you check bestbuy.com you can get great deals on components ..I purchased both my 12" kicker subs for 100 with free shipping, usually you can do a bundle pack for about the same price, just my .02 ....
and not to knock the sale but OEM JBL is wayyyy different then the actual products they sell separate, jfyi

I was working on trading panels with the seller but it turns out my panel is in sub-optimal condition. No cracks but fairly worn/scratched. If you take good care of your car I would see if the seller is willing to trade!
