I was wondering if getting just the act street clutch and using my stock flywheel will be ok as my clutch is starting to go out! please help if anyone has ever installed only the act clutch without upgrading the flywheel as finances are not there but need a clutch asap!

Yes you can just get a clutch and still use the OEM flywheel, you may or may not have to get your flywheel resurface. If you are having a mechanic doing the install he will tell you whether or not you need to or not.

He is going to recommend a resurface and rightly so. It is potentially very bad for your new clutch not to have an even surface.

My suggestion to you, buy a flywheel and do not be penny wise, pound foolish. If you have to sell off some stuff, and don't forget that if you remove the flywheel you need to change the bolts also.

MWR has oem used resurfaced/refurbished flywheels for about 80$
and they have the ARP flywheel bolts.
I think it's a pretty decent price and if your buying an ACT clutch I'm sure you can conjure up a few extra penny's for the used oem replacement or have yours resurfaced (which ever is cheaper)

I think it was even someplace in the facotry service manual that toyota does not recommend resurfacing the flywheel. They recommend replacement when changing the clutch. Internal clutch and transmission parts are not someplace you want to skimp on. The majority of the cost is in the labor.

As long as the flywheel surface is in OK condition, resurfacing it is just fine.

I've had mine resurfaced and never had a single problem because of it. (~70k miles)
