[Stephi Matrix]

In my 10 matrix s when i try to shift to reverse it wont go into gear... I read in the toyota manual that i just have to put it ino first back to neutral take out clutch and try again... Anyone else have a problem w it? s*** is annoying! Its done it since i drove it off the lot

my 03 will only go into reverse after selecting 2nd gear

clutch in, try reverse... if it doesnt go, choose 2nd gear and try again

Same here. Sometimes mine won't go into reverse or 1st. So I just put it in any gear, and switch back to the gear that is needed and all good

Yeah thats what i do too... Find it annoying at times since its every time i try to reverse... Oh well hah :x

_{Really? That many peeps having this issue? Never experienced this in my 07 5 spd & I'm pretty rough on my tranny. Always goes into reverse from any gear I've tried, (as I recall). Would the shifter link or bushings cause this??}

Mine is a b**** to go into reverse daily. Even trying to go into second or first then back to reverse doesn't always work.

Same issue here. Once at a stoplight it refused to go into any gear at all. Luckily that only happened once.

What's this "clutch" you speak of? Yes of course we are. It's just another 1 of the million Toyota quality problems.

Yes.

My clutch is not in the best of shape anyhow. It occasionally grinds in most lower gears.

Umm, that's not your clutch. Sounds like your synchros are going.....going....gone??

No worries, my 2nd gear is a little notchy, but I'm to blame for that one...

Sorry, perhaps I did not properly describe the issue. Often, when shifting into reverse, or first gear, I hear something akin to a light growl/whine and the gear doesn't properly engage. As soon as it does, the sound is gone.

I'm not getting the kind of audible noise you find through examples of "Clutch grind" on YouTube. (Can you tell I'm uninformed on the matter?)

I suppose it's just something else I'll have my mechanic take a look at it when I can afford to do something about.

My car isnt even a yr old and im def not grinding... Its something they specifically put in their manual...

Just a flaw i suppose.. Even tho i think its bs the stealership and toyota is ok w it

Wait, they said it's normal?? I still don't understand why this is happening to you guys & why it's considered "normal" according to the stealership. Everyday I back into my parking spot @ work & into my driveway/garage @ home. I'm either shifting from 1st to reverse or 2nd to reverse, depending on the scenario, but either way, I'm not having this issue.

I'd say start bitching to the dealership & tell them it's interfering with your driving or make it sound like it's hazardous. If they don't comply, take it to the next level. There's no reason why this can't be resolved.

BTW, I work @ TMMC where the trix is built & this is the first time I've ever heard of this issue.

Its in an owners manual even.. It just tells you to like re- shift... I was like thats lame

Def gunna look into it more tho... Since i only have 25k on my car and i plan on driving it for a while

Wow. Guess I'll have to check my owner's manual to see what it says. Mabye it's just "normal" for the 2nd gens?? I dunno...

This happens on EVERY manual I've ever driven. Just try again, or put it in first and roll a tiny bit then put it back in reverse.

Seems like a non issue.
