Been fighting my ebay catch can for months and I finally kick it's azz. The damn thing had a leak the problem the fittings were 5/16" and the hoses for the PCV system were 3/8" (both maybe some metric variation). The hose that came with catch can would fit both sizes but the hose off the engine was too big to fit the catch can fitting well which caused a leak (so did the drain gasket and found that leak earlier). So assuming the threads on the catch can were 1/8 pipe I went to the local hardware store to buy a 3/8" barb fitting. After try to install it at home the thing won't thread it. The catch can had some type of metric pipe threads. After searching for a 3/8" to 5/16" coupler I purchased a 1/8" pipe tap and had my way with the catch can.
It's sealed now! Some $60 later (including cost of the catch can) and couple of hours f***ing with that thing.
Improvise, adapt and overcome!

Wouldn't it have likely cost you a similar price for a better made catch can that caused you less of a headache in the first place? Just curious, and congratulations on taking care of the issue!

^^ You both are right. I'm not really sure it was the catch can's fault and the barb fitting would fit most of the cars. It wasn't the cheapest and could have made one for $20). And yes the US needs to dump this crappy measurement system for metric.

I totally agree with dropping this American measuring system. Ive just begun brewing my own beer and FFS the conversion between ounces and grams and liters to gallons and quarts is a total mind f#$k. Being a chem major, the numbers shouldn't be a problem, but boy are they annoying.

im just brewing some mr home brew i think. some basic 2 gal. barrel looking fermenter. First one was a western pale ale that was a bust, and now I just bottled my ipa. I shall see in a week or two how it turned out.

To bring it back on topic you could have maybe used a 1/8 BSPT tap instead. Surprisingly it is only one Thread per inch off from NPT It's not really a metric thread, haters.

*Old skool trick: you could cut a small piece of the 5/16, fit it on the original barb, continued fitting hoses over top one another until reaching the desired size, and used a clamp to hold it all together saving yourself several dollars to go make beer with..standard to metric conversion is so much easier while under the influence!
