So the day i bought the car the in dash clock worked fine but it seems after some hours with the stereo turned up its now off until i hit the dash really hard haha.

iv already had the trim panel off because im trying to install a bazooka base tube for a little more sound depth and i messed with the wires and harness going into the clock, i thought i fixed it but its back to turning off again.

do you guys think its a loose wire, bad harness, or should i just buy a new clock??

Search this site and you'll find that this is a common problem with the 05-08 models. You can pretty much try to repair it yourself Click Here or just buy a new clock if you can find one cheap enough.

thank you again crux after watching this video i was able to get into my clock a few weekends ago and seems the problem is fixed as it has not gone off since. it was fairly easy and took very little time.

the clock in our matrix is a little different then the corolla clock so i figured i do a quick write up for anyone who bumps into this thread in the future

first watch that youtube video first if it is still working because it gives you a really good idea of what ur doing

~next pull off your trim piece (im able to use my fingers by pulling up from the bottom worst case get a flat head)
~unplug the harness from the clock by pressing in on the tab
~press the 4 tabs around the clock to release it from the trim piece
~unlike the corolla clock we have two torx screws not clips so you will need a t7 for those
~once those are off you can carefully take the clock apart to expose the back panel which looks similar to the one in the video
~i cant tell you which ones to hit because i just touched the biggest and middle sized black chips and ignored the smaller ones which worked for me, you only need to hold it on the sides of the chips until the existing solder melts then remove (make sure the solder stays in the same spot though. myself i did not use any extra solder as im not that good with the gun and didn't want to make a mess good luck!

Holy crap this is exactly what I was trying to do last night. I watched the video a few times and then went out and got myself a soldering gun/pen/iron/thing. I'm not a pro at soldering, but I've done it in the past a few times when necessary.

As stated, the clocks in our Matrixes (Matrices?) are a little bit different, as I could really only find like two of the chips that were of any substantial size that I could reach with the fine tip of the soldering pen. I re-soldered them and then held the pen on the metal points for most of the smaller ones, but my clock still faded to nothing this morning after about 5 minutes of driving.

What am I doing wrong? Please help as I wanna sell the car and I don't want to have any little oddities to scare a buyer away - ESPECIALLY if one of those oddities is related to an airbag light!

Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

I opened this thing up again last night and re-soldered just about everything my soldering pen would fit on. Clock display still went blank after about 2 minutes of just sitting there without the car even on.

Does anybody have any other ideas at all? Replace a fuse maybe? Maybe try soldering even all those pins that hold the clock's display to the board?

I'm happy to see that my post helped some people. Sorry that you're still having problems. Good luck with it. You can try replacing the clock.
