So I'm FINALLY going to be getting my fist sub system in the near future :)

My set up will be the following:

10 inch Kicker Comp CVT sub in a small box that will be fitted to go under the front passenger seat. I will be connecting this to my already installed Kenwood Excelon kdc-x993 HU.

What I need help with is what kind of amp should I run with this set-up? I'm a nube when it comes to this kind of stuff so I'm not sure what brand and power wattage I should get. I don't want anything that's gonna be super duper expensive, but I want something that's gonna power the sub pretty well and give it some good punch, but nothing explosive, like something youd need for lets say 2 12's you know?

I've seen some people ask others what kinda music they play cuz that helps people decide what equipment to get. So I'll go ahead and answer that question now: I play alot of hip hop and rap, some alternative music, and just lately getting into the dubstep scene. Those are the 3 kinds of music I listen to, not much else actually.

Any help, guidance and opinions will be greatly appreciated guys, I plan on getting this set-up done in 2-3 weeks! :)

I have 2 12" kicker Comp's pounding through a 800w Sony xplod amp and it punches hard...I would suggest going with a any good class D amp. That's if your only connecting Subs..class D amps bring out the deepest Bass' no treble/HpF just the lows...if its just the 10" I would suggest a Kenwood 800/1000w class D amp ..but if you go with anything over 1000w you'll need a Capacitor..that helps hold power from the battery to the amp to the subs to give it a constant punch..if not it'll bump at first but then by let's say second verse the bass won't be as loud.

I took a look at Crutchfield and they have 3 Kenwood Amps:

http://www.crutchfie...FFBrand|Kenwood

I'm not concerned about the prices of each, but the specs. What should I be looking at in terms of the ohms and watts? is 900 watts maybe a lil too much for the 1 10inch sub I'll be powering? is 750 watts ok?

^That'll most likely do the trick...check the specs of the sub it should say max power etc etc.

I'm looking to pick up this beast, eventually:
http://www.sonicelec...NX4.80-500.html

The price seems right too. There are many more listed on that site, check it out. Haven't ordered from them as of yet, but I've read good things around the net.

That one should be good, but expensive for a 300 watt RMS amp! Whats the ft^3 of the box? Go to a fabric store and get some pillow filler, and pack your box with it....it will help since your box is going to be small! Dont bother getting a capacitor. It will do nothing for you!
Installed: DDM 4500K 55w HID's Morimoto Mini H1 Bi-xenon Projectors (XB-35 Bulbs & Denso Ballasts),(E-Bay) SRI Injen CAI, Pioneer Avh-P3200DVD (With add-on bluetooth & Navi) Avic-X940 Bt, Infinity Components (front) RF Prime 6.5 (rear), DC Header, JL 500/1 and 10w6, TRD Axle Back Exhaust, Camcom, TRD STB, Progress RSB, Scion TC Wheels Stock 16" 5-Spoke, Scanguage II, VLED V3 Triton Brake Lights, VLED: Interior reverse and flashers,

The cap was only if he was going 1000W plus.

Thanks for the confirmation man, I am in the process of double checking both specs for the sub and amp to make sure they will work together :)

Crapacitors are a band-aid (and a small one at that) for a weak electrical system.

I'm running a 2 12s with an 800watt amp 400watt RMS. No Cap. Everything is normal besides the rare harsh-start.

oh my advice,

Get sound deadening first.
Think before you post.
