I have run across a great sealant for use in all different types of headlight projects that require baking the housing and resealing. It is the OEM sealant from Nissan/Nismo. It is a highly recommended sealant that was made for sealing headlight housings back up after opening them.

http://www.mynismo.c...?id=5577&rsku=0

You can use this for sealing up projects like:
  • Projector retrofits
  • Reflector changing
  • Lens replacing
  • JDM painted
  • LED accent lighting

The seleant is already soft so there is no need to heat it up before applying it.

How-to use:
1. Place a small bead of sealant along the inside of the trough of the housing where the lens would go. (The bead should only be about 1/4 of an inch thick. You should have a small amout of the original sealant on the housing already from when you baked it open.)
2. Place lens back in place .
3. Push lens and housing together as fimly as possible to make good contact with the sealant.
4. Place in a 300 degree Fahrenheight oven for about 5 minutes to get the sealant more pliable and seals better. (A heat gun works wonders also.)
5. While sealant is still warm and soft, fimly press the lens into the housing some more. Use clamps to keep it sealed if you have them.
6. Once it's all cooled down, it's sealed! Viola! Enjoy your newest finished creation that's sealed nice and tight! :)

Thanks dude.

Oh!! And one roll is enough sealant to seal approximately 2-3 sets of housings!

Just an FYI
There are other products out there that are A LOT cheaper.
Such as window sealant for a car's windshield.
But, yes the nissan OEM sealant works very well.

Yes. This oem Nissan headlight sealant is a rubber butyl type sealant. It isn't goey to the touch until it is heated. You will be able to reopen your headlights the same way you did the first time with it.

Yes the sealant that came with the projector kits works great, but can be very messy if not handled right since it is very goey and pastey. But if you don't already have a sealant, or want a clean non-messy kind, this is the way to go! I've also noticed the our grey OEM sealant as well the grey sealant that comes with the projector kits start to form toxic fumes once heated in the oven. This rubber butyl sealant from Nissan/Nismo doesn't fume up and is easy to use.

^that's some great stuff and it is way cheaper but it says it's double-sided tape, whereas the sealant I listed is the actual stretchable sealant that is moldable into wharves you are working on. I'm sure you can get it cheaper at different places but Nismo is where I personally got it from.

It's not tape per say, It's still sealant the self adhering allows you keep it place while installing a part or sealing a part place in oven it softens, then completely close it.

Can you guys give some links to a good projectors? The ones RcMannAE86 pictured look great but are they good quality lances? I know Acura and Ifinity have one of the best projectors. Any aftermarket ones with similar quality? Or just look for used from these automakers at the junkyard?

^ it'll save you a lot of cash buying them at a junk yard, I paid 15$ for a pair of Lexus sc400 projectors compared to 150$ from TheRetroFitsource. Com (which is a good website to check out)

The Morimoto Mini Bi-xenon H1 are the easiest (what i've got) to install, but bulb selection in very limited. If i could redo it, i'd get the d2s Mini's. You have a much larger selection of bulbs to choose from. These two require a small amount of manipulation to the bulb housing. If you feel like going balls out and hacking the hell out of your housing, you can get the FX-R's

^i definitely agree with Danimal. At the time I did my project, the morimoto d2s mini's weren't developed yet. I would definitely recommend the mini's. The lens and projector quality are both great. If you are looking for OEM hid projector quality, go to a junkyard and find Acura, infinity, or Honda s2000 projectors. Some Lexus ones are great too. Just be aware that OEM projectors are extremely expensive, which is why I suggest going to a junkyard or pick-n-pull first.

Has anyone here actually tried to do a non mini H1/D2S retrofit? I picked up a new set of FX-R 3.0's for really cheap, but i haven't made a plan about how to mount them.
