NEW YORK — Toyota recalled 1.13 million Corolla sedans and Matrix hatchbacks Thursday because their engines may stall, the latest in a string of quality problems at the Japanese automaker.
The recall covers vehicles from the 2005-2008 model years sold in North America.
Three accidents and one minor injury have been reported, though Toyota said a link to the engine issue has not been confirmed.
The automaker said vehicles with 1ZZ-FE engines may contain a defective engine control module, the computer that regulates the performance of the engine. In some cases, a crack may develop on the module's circuit board, which could prevent the engine from starting, harsh shifting or an engine stall.
Toyota said it will replace the engine control modules on the recalled vehicles at no charge. It will begin mailing notifications to customers with affected Corollas and Matrixes starting in mid-September.
Toyota Motor Corp. has recalled more than 10 million vehicles worldwide over the past year for a range of problems, including faulty gas pedals, floor mats that can trap accelerators and braking problems in its Prius hybrid.
Federal regulators have been investigating the possibility of engine stalls in the Corolla and Matrix models since December and intensified their probe earlier this week.
Toyota shares fell 28 cents to $68.78.

Yup the 03s & 04s had that passenger side front window bolt that needed to be tightened - a few even had driver side front windows issues as well. It's an easy fix if you DIY and look through the threads here.
This hasn't been a good year and a half for Toyota.

My clutch appears to be good when I got it at 71k (not that it's going to last under my current driving...), I have never experienced my windows falling yet and I use them a lot.

Correct me if Im wrong but I believe there are choices programmed into the ECU like when you press 'unlock' on the keyfob, how long the delay is before the doors re-lock is a programmable choice.
This leaves me with many questions....
* If we want these options changed from the default, will Toyota do the programming free of charge as part of this recall?
I bought my Toyota used and my doors re-lock faster than the default setting. I was told it would be something silly like $60 to reprogram it.
* Will the techs use a procedure that transfers over any 'learned' engine adjustments?
(If these learned values are not transferred over, we can expect a decrease in gas mileage and performance until the values are re-learned by the new ECU.)
* If learned values will be transferred, will values like my door-lock delay be transferred also?
Perhaps now is the time to study what the programmable options are and see if they will re-program them for free.

I figured I should ask this question here since its the main subject, will replacing the ECU affect anything like your odometer/trip , clock , radio stations , etc.

they should all be ok.
but you'll probably lose your radio stations (stock radio) if they disconnect the battery for so long. and clock could possibly reset, but i doubt it.
