How Do You Remove Vht Off Actual Car Paint?!

S27's Photo S27 22 Aug 2009

Hey guys,

My friend who recently tried to tint his tail lights with VHT Nightshades got the spray on his actual car because he didn't cover one piece up. He owns a white XR so it's dead obvious. We tried to get off with goof off, paint thinner and wax. None of these worked. They just made it slightly lighter. Can someone PLEASE help. This retard is considering actually getting his bumper changed but i know there MUST be a way to fix this. Any suggestions would help!

Thanks guys :D

p.s. it's not even that big of a mess. Just a spot the size of half a bottle cap maybe? lol but the damn car is white...

Wondering the same thing b/c the guy who did mine obviously did not mask off the bumper very well, doesn't show as much b/c it is black, but I want it gone and was wondering what the best way to get rid of it is. He suggested Acetone, but I decided to pass on that option b/c I don't know if it will work or damage the clear underneath. I have thought about color sanding but that is more work than I care to do!

Well if it's small little dots then you should just use goof off because goof off gets those off no problem but my friend's bumper has a pretty decent size stain on it and a higher concentration of paint than just a small dot.

Good luck

Mine is a pretty good amount of overspray over a large surface of the bumper, and if by goof off you mean goo gone, I might give it a try just to see what happens.

Try either color sand or rubbing compound. Or something more aggressive than wax at least.

has anyone tried a clay bar? if it is just overspray a clay bar should do the trick

Rubbing compoud should work, its more abrasive than a clay barn, unless ur brave enough to do a light wet sand.

clay bar maybe safer, rubbing compound can leave swirls and really mess the clearcoat up

no i did mean GOOF OFF. goo gone is a spray and comes in a black spray bottle. GOOF OFF comes in a container that looks like a varsol container. It worked for most of the stains but not the last one. Clay bar didn't work either. But we haven't tried rubbing compound. How much should we use? I'm scared it's going to mess up the paint.

You don't have to use a lot, just get a waxin pad and put a lil bit of water on it, then put a little bit on the pad, rub it on the area, the key is to keep the pad damp, u shouldnt do anything to the clear coat. and it should take it off, then just wash the area, then wax it. i had someone side swipe my car once and they left the a black mirror line down the side of the car and it took that right off no problem...

Oh ok, well hope he gets it off the car... I have yet to take mine off and do them. I do have a question, did u clear them after u used the nite-shade and how dark did u put yours on? In pa we cant go too dark. We have so many laws and they are so stupid. If u have pics of the tailights could u post ? Id like to see how they turned out.

Clear coat them. After a month you cant get the Nite Shades off anyways as it bakes into the lens. Trust me...I've been using the Nite Shades for four or five years now. We sell tons of it and tint lights as well.
To remove it from your paint, use automotive grade thinner, not the department store stuff.

VHT Nite Shades is sold @ Pep Boys for about 14.99$ USD, I know cause I work there.
Um I would personally try a Clay Bar or Goo Gone, Goof Off, 3M adhesive remover.

Also it is very simple to remove tail lights from a car so spraying them on a car is just retarded.
