the stock taillights have 3, 10mm nuts holding them in place. just unscrew them and the light should just be able to be pulled out from its position. the rubber gasket between the lights and the body might be sticky, but it should just come apart. the reverse light, indicator light, and brake like all get wired together into a central hub which will need to be unplugged in order to fully remove the tail light. i bought the x3 taillights off of ebay, and they didnt come with any bulbs or sockets, so i had to take the stock ones off the stock tail lamps and insert them into the x3 tails. once you get the tail light off the car, removing the bulb sockets is pretty easy....

...i hope this helps a bit...

oh ya.....the new lights should likely come with a new gasket that wont fit quite as well as the old stock one cause its brand new....

i also found that the x3 tails needed to be dremeled a bit to fit properly, but the dremeling doesnt take too much time or effort....you can search for a post from matr6 - - he has the x3's too and he has pics of where the tails need to be dremeled.

Whatever you do DONT DROP THE NUTS!!! It is a pain to get them back because you have to remove like 20 different panels to reach the nuts if they fall.

i dropped out of the nuts when i was swapping out my tail lights this week. i was able to retrieve it by sticking my hand through the small opening after removing the plastic spare tire cover.

I don't follow too well. I'm getting my matrix in a few weeks (its on order). I can't stand altezza -=anything=- as its much too blingy for me and I have found a set of used tails from an 03-04 matrix. I don't really want to do it myself, but is it these same instructions?? Do the 03-04 matrix tails play nice with the 06's?

I'm not crazy about tearing apart my new matrix, but I can't handle those tails...

I'm about to be the biggest dumbass newb on the board, but I'm not gonna mess with my new matrix. I'm gonna let somebody else do it. For $40 I can get my guys who are going to do my window tints to install my tails. So for $280 I get a whole new matrix, after I get a whole new matrix.

Seeing as how I installed 90% of my mods on my Si on my own, I would think tails would be easy. But I really don't care. So there, NAH! Lol.

I'm feeling fine :( Its just that if I can get it for $40, it'd be better than if I did it. Just to save me the headache of the work. LOL.

I actually tried removing the tail lights earlier today. It's not as hard as you make it seem. The only problem was getting the aftermarket tails to fit properly. :(

LOL, thats why I'm not getting aftermarket. I'm getting the right market...haha. The 06's should ship w/ normal tails. period. Not these altezza things...thats what aftermarket tails are for. These are NOT my taste at all...so they come out.
